Sheffield-based band Lofter’s second full album builds on the success of its predecessor ‘Raindrop’ by offering up a selection of intelligent songs performed with only acoustic instrumentation. With this album boasting an air of confidence, there’s a feeling that the Lofter lads have truly found their collective and creative stride and there’s a delightfully experimental feel to some of the tracks whether it be ditching the instruments for multi-layered harmonies on “River Of Life” – the nearest the group get to directly referencing matters of faith – or the wordless America-like “Riff1” and some textured instrumentation on the sublime “Home”.
Founder member Ant Clifford and his now extended group (previously a trio) know exactly how to mix light and shade with the likes of the deep “Core” sitting next to more light-hearted numbers such as the teenage love song “Part 2” and the nerd-affirming “Not Cool Bus” with ease. The kooky closer “In The Woods” sees all involved finally pick up electric instruments and rock out in what is a tantalising glimpse of where this talented band might be heading next.
